”I wanted some guidance counseling” : A quantitative survey regarding counseling initiated by the students themselves.

The purpose of our research is to study how guidance counseling initiated by the students themselves differs between girls and boys in high school. We want to study if there are any differences between girls and boys regarding guidance initiated by the students themselves. We conducted a quantitative survey consisting of a questionnaire survey with 125 respondents. The respondents are second year students at the Science program. The result of the survey shows that there are hardly any differences between girls and boys regarding guidance initiated by the students themselves. The result also reveals that the respondents are feeling satisfied with the educational and vocational guidance and that the respondents prefer to contact a guidance counselor in form of personal meetings instead of e-mail contact, for example. We came to the conclusion that the respondents are keen about their schooling due to that course related questions ended up in the top among the reasons to visit a guidance counselor in both sexes. Our survey also shows that a majority of both girls and boys visited a guidance counselor several times during their high school years. Our hope is that guidance initiated by the students themselves becomes more noticed and that more research will be conducted in this area. Syftet med vår undersökning är att undersöka hur uppsökande vägledningen skiljer sig åt mellan flickor och pojkar i gymnasieskolan. Vi vill belysa på vilket sätt det förekommer skillnader mellan flickor och pojkar avseende uppsökande vägledning. Vi gjorde en enkätundersökning med 125 respondenter i årskurs 2 på Naturvetenskapsprogrammet. Resultatet av enkätundersökningen visar att det knappt förekommer några skillnader mellan flickor och pojkar gällande uppsökande vägledning. Det framkommer även att respondenterna känner sig nöjda med studie- och yrkesvägledningen samt att respondenterna föredrar kontakt i form av personliga möten framför exempelvis mailkontakt. Vi kom fram till att respondenterna är måna om sin studietid då kursrelaterade frågor hamnar i topp hos båda könen bland anledningar att besöka en studie- och yrkesvägledare. Vår undersökning visar även att många av både flickorna och pojkarna har besökt en studie- och yrkesvägledare flertalet gånger under sin gymnasietid. Vår förhoppning är att uppsökande vägledning överlag blir mer uppmärksammat och att mer forskning genomförs inom detta område
